I’m sure people have guessed this, but “soft left” affs or affs with structural violence and/or non-extinction impacts will be a pretty big part of the Criminal Justice Reform topic. As such, we decided to get a headstart on discussing how to debate the impact framing portion of those affs.
Originally these two podcasts were going to be one podcast on debating impact framing – but we love to talk about this and so we decided to break it up in to two podcasts – one discussing the strategy of soft left affs and how to debate impact framing from the aff perspective and one discussing debating soft left impact framing from the neg perspective. One programming note – the latter conversation ended up being a little longer because we also included a discussion of how judges tend to evaluate impact framing debates, which is relevant for both the aff and the neg.
In the aff podcast, you’ll hear from Michigan debate coaches Kevin Hirn and Val McIntosh, as well as from Michigan debaters Ben McGraw, Rafael Pierry and Brandon Stras.
In the neg podcast, you’ll hear from Michigan debate coaches Kevin Hirn and Val McIntosh, as well as from Michigan debaters Ethan Muse, Rafael Pierry and Brandon Stras.
